This month, I’ll be joining 300+ inspired runners who will be taking on the Gore-Tex Transrockies Run. 113 miles across the rockies over six consecutive days at an average altitude of 10,000 feet – all amidst the breathtaking backdrop offered by Colorado’s highest peaks.

I’ve participated in a lot of endurance events from century rides, to marathons, to Ironman events, but I’ve never taken on anything like this.  And that’s specifically why I am so excited about Transrockies.

I wanted to extend my comfort zone, and the Transrockies stage run will certainly do that.  Pressing your comfort zone is something we all should do.  It’s essentially how you grow – at a personal and professional level. And as we get ready to extend the Endurance Magazine business model for 2011, I wanted to get primed for the exciting uncertainties we will undoubtedly face.

I’ve run over 600 miles in preparation for this event in temperatures that are simply unreasonable.  With the faith and support of my family, friends, and our awesome Endurance Team, I have overcome many obstacles to keep my training and preparation in line with ‘the plan’ while I’ve worked to stay in tune with all other aspects of regular daily life.  I’ve worked out my nutrition, I’ve experimented with different types of gear.  I’ve visualized running every step of the course.  And I’ll head out to acclimate to altitude for four days before the run begins.  I’ve done all I can to prepare. And even with all of that, my expectation is simply this:  It will be physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging, and I will learn something about myself that I couldn’t foresee – hopefully giving me a broader perspective to what is possible.

I have no idea what the experience will deliver.  One thing is for sure, I’m pretty confident the daily stresses that I perceive growing our inspiring business while raising three wildly wonderful children will pale in comparison.  Hopefully providing a relaxing September.

Inspire.  Perform.  Endure.
