“Training and the race help you bring your best forward. You can apply this to all areas in your life. It is also a great way to stay fit without taking up a lot of time.”

I first participated in Ramblin’ Rose nine years ago because of my brother, a fantastic triathlete. He said if I did it, he’d visit us and cheer me on. I figured it was worth trying because I really wanted to him to visit our 3-month-old daughter. Now I am addicted to doing triathlons and compete in several Ramblin’ Rose events every year. My best moment is every moment I am competing because it is all dedicated to my family. My mantra is “Russ, Julia, Lukas, Kaela.” There’s nothing sweeter at the end of the race than seeing my family at the finish. I challenge myself to keep building on what I learned and enjoy it all with my family, now that Kaela and Luke are now old enough to swim, bike and run with us.

“Ramblin’ Rose helped me see myself as a triathlete. That’s cool because it’s kind of like saying I’m an adult that still loves playing in the water, riding my bike and running  in the woods.”
