“I am so proud of myself because I have accomplished something that I never gave any thought to when I was young.”

Martha Butler, 67 | Pinehurst, NC

I am  a triathlete.  I have participated in four Ramblin’ Rose events from 2006 to 2014. I participated in the Chapel Hill event in 2006 when I was 59.  I also participated in the Chapel Hill event in 2008, Raleigh in 2013 and 2014.  I began my journey becoming a triathlete when I saw an AARP triathlon at the Pinehurst Fitness Center. The energy was amazing and I wanted to be a part of that so I organized Team Heavenly Rhythm and participated in two events. My team disbanded and I found Ramblin’ Rose Women’s Triathlon.  I am so proud of myself because I have accomplished something that I never gave any thought to when I was young.  I am a swimmer and I knew I could focus and be a member of this elite group of women who were doing something they enjoyed.  The women I met were supportive and encouraging.  Now I am a seasoned triathlete, supporting and encouraging other women.  My husband Franklin has supported me in every way as my sponsor, camera man, and my personal coach.  He is the best!
