On Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon and 5 Miler will be returning to Washington, DC, for its third consecutive year and 11th annual event. It launches the military’s fall running events in Washington, DC, and is a perfect training run for the Marine Corps Marathon six weeks later.

The USATF-certified courses start and finish in the shadow of the Washington Monument. Passing many of Washington, DC, memorials, the course takes runners along the scenic Rock Creek Parkway and the flat and fast East and West Potomac parks. Award categories include overall male and female, masters (40-plus years of age) male and female, wheelchair male and female, five-year age groups, and team categories for each race. A runners’ expo will be held during packet pick-up for runners to get great deals on race gear and running products.

There are team categories for the highly competitive runners and those who just want to enjoy the event with no pressure added. The Timed and Scored Competition includes the Military, Corporate and Open categories. The top four times will be combined to determine team time and placement. The Most Participants Challenge is for those wanting to enjoy the event with their friends and family. Teams with the most registrants will be recognized in the following categories: Company (small, medium, large and non-profit), College, High School, and Military Command.
