As any athlete or personal trainer can attest, a sustainable improvement in health or fitness requires adopting new routines. Making changes and interrupting deeply rooted habits can be a challenge, and seeking out a supportive community is an important element. Raleigh/Durham residents and beyond seeking to improve their physical fitness will have an opportunity to jump-start their exercise regimen, learn about plant-based choices and enjoy a day of family fun as the summer begins to heat up. This 5K race is for adults and children at all fitness levels, and participants who come dressed as fruits/vegetables will be entered into a costume contest. The starting gun will sound at 8:00am at Southern Village Green, located at 400 Market Street in Chapel Hill.

The Triangle Vegfest Monthly Market will take place concurrently with the event, featuring local vendors of various vegan goods and services, including brunch served by Durham-based Soul Cocina Triangle and beer from Carolina Brewery. A live DJ will be playing music throughout the day. The 5K and the Market are both zero-waste events, using 100% compostable and recyclable products. The event is organized by Triangle Vegfest, a Raleigh-based nonprofit (501(c)3) dedicated to educating the public about health-conscious and environmentally-friendly lifestyle choices, and in collaboration with Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge (PFAR), a sanctuary located in Pittsboro that provides shelter, food, and medical care for rescued animals. PFAR is also the presenting sponsor for the Triangle Vegfest annual event happening on August 26/27 in Durham, NC. Southern Village Green, CompostNOW, and Bronson Greene, local Kangen Water Distributor, is also an event sponsor.
