Twenty-nine-year-old Crystal Perkins is an orthopaedic surgery resident in Charlotte, North Carolina. While balancing work and training is a constant battle for this triathlete preparing for Ironman Chattanooga this month, she believes you should make time to pursue a passion. For Perkins, this means 4 a.m. workouts. “Commitment and dedication to a training regimen translates to efficiency and well-developed time-management skills in life outside swimming, biking and running,” says Perkins.

WHAT PERKINS SAYS ABOUT RAMBLIN’ ROSE:

“Amidst a busy season of competing, I knew that the excitement and inspiration involved with a Ramblin’ Rose event would be unparalleled. The distances are short and very manageable for a beginner, you’ll be surrounded by lots of first-timers, and you get a T-shirt! But by far, the most exciting portion of the race for me was standing at the finish line after I finished and cheering for all of the other women. There are women of all ages, sizes, backgrounds, and reasons for competing. Their passion and excitement for accomplishing their goals is remarkable.”
