The Langley Pond Triathlon is a hidden gem in the AAA South Carolina Triathlon Series. Just outside of the quaint and vibrant town of Aiken, South Carolina, Langley Pond is a triathlon dream.

Langley Pond (often called the world’s largest pond – or world’s smallest lake, depending on whom you ask) is the site of many national rowing competitions and has hosted the international- and sprint-distance triathlons since 2007. The triathlons themselves are a mixture of terrain that will test your endurance just enough. The swim temperatures are in the low 80s so wetsuits are not needed. The bike course gives you a chance to get aero in several flat sections while still giving you a challenge by providing two gradual climbs. Of course, what goes up must come down, so plan to counter those two climbs with two fast downhills. The run is a flat and fast out-and-back affair.

If you’ve never been to Aiken, the Langley Pond Triathlon may just be the reason you have been waiting for. As always Set Up Events puts on a great show, and Aiken is a welcoming Southern host. And if you are planning to race Ironman Augusta 70.3 this is the perfect warm-up distance for that race. Augusta is just over the river so you can take the opportunity to check out that race venue while you are here.
