The American Odyssey Relay starts in Gettysburg, Pa., in the shadow of the Civil War battlefields. The route takes you through Michaux State Forest as it slowly makes its way toward Maryland and crosses the Mason-Dixon Line. The route also travels through Sharpsburg, Md., home of the Antietam Battlefield. After running through the battlefield during the middle of the night and into the wee hours of the morning, participants continue running to Shepherdstown, W.V., before coming back toward Harpers Ferry, another famous Civil War landmark. Along the way to D.C. the course passes historic Riley’s Lock and Great Falls, Md. The final runner will get to run over the Key Bridge into Viginia and then back over the 14th Street Bridge before finishing with teammates at the SW Waterfront in Washington, D.C.
