Bullock and Newton Repeat as Series Champions. Baker Wins Men’s Open Division and Curtain Wins Women’s Masters

The NC-USATF Endurance Magazine Long Distance Series may have wrapped up with the OBX Marathon in November, but Caitlin Bullock and Chad Newton had their division championships long since locked up, repeating as women’s open and men’s masters champions. Both Newton and Bullock’s early season dominance earned them enough points to outlast fields of tough competitors even without participating in the last two races of the year. Chapel Hill’s Brock Baker dominated the men’s open division, unseating 2012 champion Bobby Mack. Jennifer Curtain won the women’s masters division.

Plans for the 2014 NC-USATF Endurance Magazine Long Distance Series are under way. Entering its fourth year, the series will include the top races in North Carolina, spanning the state from the beaches to the mountains and distances from the mile to the marathon. Division champions – male and female overall and male and female masters – will be determined by totaling points earned in a system that gives the most points to race winners, and fewer points to second- and third-place finishers.

The races in the series are open to all comers, but to be eligible for the NC-USATF Endurance Magazine Runner of the Year title, NC-USATF individual championships, and NC-USATF division prize money you must be a registered member of the North Carolina division of the USATF, and be a 12-month resident of North Carolina.
