More than 786,000 runners crossed the finish line at Thanksgiving Day themed events in 2014 making Thanksgiving the biggest running day of the year. In fact, there were more than 1,000 races on turkey day in 2014 as well as in 2013, according to the Running USA website, which doesn’t list statistics for 2015 probably because they are still counting! Often tied to fundraisers or food drives Turkey Trots are typically festive races on the shorter side — 3 to 6 miles — held on Thanksgiving morning. Keep in mind that if your plan is to burn off enough calories to make up for Thanksgiving Dinner, you’ll need to run a half marathon or longer.
