The Lake Lure Olympiad returns for its 14th annual year on August 10-12, 2018 in the awe-inspiring mountain retreat town of Lake Lure, North Carolina. From the shores of Rumbling Bald Resort to the peaks of Chimney Rock State Park, this destination sports event, with the ultimate three races in three days challenge, is a getaway for athletes, family and friends to enjoy race competitions, outdoor adventures and the surrounding small towns amidst the stunning backdrop of the Hickory Nut Gorge.

Athletes are gearing up to participate in multiple events throughout the weekend including: the Slam the Dam 10K Run, a Dare to TRI Lake Lure Triathlon and to Dominate the Rock at the Race to the Rock 5K Run and 25-Mile Bike. New this year is a free practice swim for triathletes on Friday evening. Kids ages 4-14 can join in on the competitive fun with mom and dad to compete and earn medals too at the Junior Olympiad on Saturday morning. In addition to the race competitions, the Olympiad will host a Golf Tournament and Pickleball Tournaments.

On Friday evening the annual Opening Ceremonies celebration will kick-off the weekend for athletes and spectators to come together, meet one another and enjoy festivities on the beach at Rumbling Bald Resort. This year the excitement is bigger than ever! Don’t miss the ‘Build a Box Boat Race’, lighting of the torch, water ski performances and a free ice cream social. Throughout the evening, there will be music and dancing, plus a cookout on the beach, including specialty beers.

For the past thirteen years, the Lake Lure Olympiad, a non-profit organization, has raised over $315,000 with 100% given back to area charities and service organizations. Each year, with the help of over 250 community volunteers, the Olympiad produces fun and challenging events with the commitment of promoting health, wellness and safety in children and adults, regional tourism and economic development.
