Since its inception in 2006, Run for Green has become a premiere running event in the area, with challenging courses – all USATF-certified. The run this year is again presented by MSC Industrial Supply Co. and numerous community-minded sponsors.

The courses – 5k, 10k and half-marathon – all begin and end at the town green in Davidson and feature the public greenways and scenic neighborhoods – old and new – of Davidson.

“We focus on the runner,” says Chad Randolph, race committee chair, “with proven organization and management, from course security, to an extensive array of awards (contributed by Omega Sports) for age divisions and overall winners, to sag carts for the more casual entrants.”  Unique medallions are awarded for all finishers in the half-marathon and a recovery zone at the finish will be operated by Adjusting the World Chiropractic.

After the race, runners may enjoy free chocolate milk from The Bradford Store and Homeland Creamery or a free soft drink or beer from Flatiron Kitchen and Taphouse. Race director Jason Ratike of Sisu Events says, “We are delighted to announce that a new feature of the ninth edition of the Run for Green will be free running socks for first 300 registrants from Thorlo, ‘the best in the world at foot protection.’”

DLC President Rodney Graham highlighted some of the “green” features of the event, noting “We will offer poly/cotton T-shirts, an online goody bag, and a bike corral on the green for runners and volunteers who bicycle to the event.”  The Run for Green is presented as a model of a sustainable event , following principles of Athletes for a Fit Planet. To register or volunteer, view a map of the course, and receive other information, go to www.davidsonlands.org. Registration is limited to 400 runners for each race.
