The fourth annual Raleigh’s Finest 5K is scheduled for July 26, 2014, at 8 a.m. With a brand new location and route – USATF-certified 5k – this year’s race should prove to be the biggest and best yet.

The course will start in front of the Raleigh Convention Center and wind its way through Boylan Heights before turning back toward downtown, passing by RFD Station 1 and the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters memorial and ending with a downhill sprint to the finish line in front of the Sir Walter Raleigh statue at the convention center.

A kids’ fun run will start the day at 7:45 a.m., with the 5k going off directly after.

This race began as a small event put on by the wives of two fallen firefighters in an attempt to honor their husbands’ memories and raise awareness of two local charities close to their hearts – the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the 200 Club of Wake County.  The NCFFF is an organization that offers support to the families of all fallen fire fighters in the state of North Carolina, and the 200 Club of Wake County provides immediate financial assistance to the families of all fallen emergency service workers in Wake County. Supporting this race provides a tremendous boost to both of these worthy causes.

Post-race food, drinks and entertainment will be at the start/finish line for all participants, and the awards ceremony will follow immediately after the last finisher completes the course. Awards will be given for the top three in all male/female age groups in addition to a top three male/female fire fighter category.
