Carolina BalloonFest Celebrates 40 Years with First 5k and Kids Fun Run

The Carolina BalloonFest’s first race course will be flat and fast. The race starts at the end of the Statesville Regional Airport runway and runs by several big NASCAR team drivers’ hangars, including Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, Turner Scott Motorsports, Red Horse Racing, Germain Racing, Furniture Row Racing, Swan Racing, Tommy Baldwin Racing, BK Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing and Penske Racing. The course exits the runway by the Lowes Corporate hangar and runs parallel with the runway to the turnaround. Runners will then retrace their steps to have a strong finish down the runway past the start line and finish in front of the second main stage and Balloon Rally staging area. All of this while viewing magnificent colored hot-air balloons! The 5k will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the fun run will begin at 9:30 a.m. Additional race details are online at www.racingtoes.com/carolina-balloonfest-5k-and-kids-fun-run/.

Stick around after the race and enjoy the rest of the festival activities, which include a Kids’ Zone with inflatables and challenges for all ages, live entertainment throughout the day, fine wines and craft brews from North Carolina vineyards and breweries, and an Artisan Village and Marketplace with unique gifts, all while enjoying the Carolina autumn weather and the amazing sights and sounds of colorful hot-air balloons.
