Charlotte and Columbia – Sept. 22

Don’t Just Ride, Bike MS

On Sept. 22-23, join more than 1,500 cyclists from across the Carolinas to pedal from the greater Charlotte and Columbia, S.C., areas to North Carolina’s Sunset Beach in an epic ride to raise funds and awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Bike MS: Breakaway to the Beach is a fully supported two-day event open to cyclists of all ability levels. Cyclists will cross 125-200 miles of the Carolinas, passing through the North Carolina cities of Monroe and Pageland and the South Carolina cities of Camden, Hartsville, Florence, and Green Sea before ending their journey at Sunset Beach.

Bike MS: Breakaway to the Beach supports the Greater Carolinas Chapter in its mission of assisting more than 13,500 individuals with multiple sclerosis and their families in 82 counties in North Carolina and all of South Carolina. MS is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system for which there is no cure. Funds raised support programs and services to help local people living with MS and fund national research into the cause and cure of the disease.

This ride is one of longest standing nonprofit events of its kind in the Carolinas with an average of 1,500 cyclists, 400 volunteers and countless supporters and spectators participating each year. Registration is $55 and cyclists are required to raise $300 to help create a world free of MS. The route features rest stops every eight to 12 miles stocked with fresh fruit, snacks, and beverages; full lunches both days; dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday; bike mechanics at the start sites and rest stops; group ride training and safety information; and all the fun you could hope for with themed rest stops and excitement at the finish line.
