Hoyt is often the person people cite as the catalyst for their own Ironman journey. I reflected on this last month when I finished [Read More]

Food for Fuel - Roasted Vegetable Israeli Couscous

Couscous is one of those familiar items seen on many ethnic menus and inside the grocery store, usually on the aisle with the rice and quinoa. Most people assume it is a grain of some sort, but it is actually steamed balls made of semolina flower that originated in Northern Africa. Prevent These Five Common Cycling Injuries
Everything you do in life has risks, and cycling is no exception. Each year in the United States, more than half a million people end up in the emergency room due to a bicycle-related injury. Managing Your Mastectomy

As a sports physical therapist, I don’t see breast cancer survivors often for the sole reason of complications resulting for their surgery. A handful of cases a year come into our clinic, mostly swimmers and cyclists, and we treat them to help them return to sport as soon as possible. Recently, a dear friend and fellow cyclist on our local team, was diagnosed with early stage cancer and after some simple research, I quickly became aware more and more people are having mastectomies with or without reconstruction across the country. Some of these patients have biopsied tissue and the results were positive for cancer. [read more]

Gran Fondo Boone | August 6 | Boone, NC

In mid-summer, the High Country of North Carolina enjoys 80-degree temperatures while the surrounding East Coast temperatures hover in the high 90s. Early August is a prime time to be in Boone! The Boone Gran Fondo rolls through Appalachian State University, climbs beside picturesque Winklers Creek, the gorgeous Shull’s Mill Road, and passes the Blue Ridge Parkway. With sections of the course like a paved roller coaster, you’ll pass the Grandfather Mountain Park entrance and experience an amazing ride downhill into the town of Linville. As you ride into the North Toe River Valley you’ll enjoy a few tranquil moments before an awesome ascent. Another nice downhill waits on the other side. The beautiful Bethel Valley brings riders to a climb to the Tennessee State Line and then cruises on a very long gradual downhill grade through the valley and communities of Sugar Grove and Valle Crucis before a climb up Laurel Fork and White Oak roads back to the town of Boone. This is a ride you do not want to miss!

For more information, visit Boone Gran Fondo.
