Now
in its 12th year, the Ramblin’ Rose Women’s Triathlon family continues
to grow. Since the first event in Chapel Hill in October 2006 more than
30,000 women have become Ramblin’ Rose triathletes. In addition to
welcoming these new triathletes to the Ramblin’ Rose family, we also

Experience
the Energy of Ramblin' Rose
I
previously worked at the Downtown Durham YMCA as a swim instructor. I
had the opportunity to teach a few classes for the ladies preparing for
the 2014 Ramblin’ Rose. I was inspired by them to sign up for the race.
They were there at least two times a week for 6am practices. They were
always so [Read

GEAR
REVIEW - 3 Things - Finis Swim Snorkel
The
Swimmer’s Snorkel allows swimmers to focus on stroke technique without
the interruption of turning the head to breathe. A silicone purge seat
allows water to flow out of the snorkel without entering the
mouthpiece. The center-mount design accommodates a full range of motion
for butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle. [read

Food
for Fuel - Sweet Potato Salad
Sweet
potatoes usually show up as the star of one of these recipes at least
once or twice a year. They are not only very versatile for cooking
(their uses and preparation methods are endless), but they are
consistently ranked by various food and nutrition publications as one
of the healthiest foods on the planet. Sweet potatoes are rich in
beta-caroten, vitamin C and dietary fiber. As a complex carbohydrate
they fall low on the glycemic index, making them beneficial for
controlling blood sugar. [read more]

Tips For Avoiding Running Injuries
In
addition to traditional marathons, color runs and obstacle course races
are attracting an increasing number of novice runners. In the U.S.,
over 19 million people complete organized running events each year. As
a result, sports and orthopedic specialists, primary care physicians,

Core Corner - Split Squat (with Rear Foot
Elevated)
Running
requires strength and stability on one leg to drive the body forward
efficiently. The split squat is a great multi-joint (hip-knee-ankle)
exercise that really brings the hip joint to the forefront as the power
mover that drives us forward in walking and running. In reference to
improving triathlon [read more]

- Running Smart, So You Can Keep Running
“Run
smart.” Recently these have become my closing words, at the end of each
training session, to one of my “runner” patients. Running smart means
making wise training decisions regarding workout selection and racing
goals based on how your body feels and not what your training plan
says, or [read

TRX
Tip: Kettlebell Land Mine
This
movement requires an additional strap and kettle bell to complete the
exercise. This is a modification of the popular “land mine" exercise
and is one of my favorites for the abdominals in a functional closed
kinetic chain standing position.
Start in a
standing position facing away from the TRX anchor point. Pick up the
kettle bell, which should be strapped in both handles of the TRX or
another suspension system. While holding the kettle bell out in front
of the body and slightly elevated at about head height

Club Kick Start
Club Kick Start (CKS) was
founded in 2014 by a committed team of former collegiate swimmers,
U.S.A National Swim Team members and Olympic Trial Qualifiers. CKS
bridges the gap between summer league & year round competitive
swimming. CKS’ curriculum equips youth with the technical foundation
necessary for year-round club swimming. The vision is to inspire
athletes through the sport medium of competitive swimming to
believe in themselves so that they can be successful and unleash their
full potential both in and out of the water. The mission is to
deliver a swim curriculum that streamlines the advancement of swimming
skills and mentors the athlete by providing opportunity for individual
growth in a fun & safe environment. Flexible practice options allow
for families to participate in multiple sports that fosters development
of well rounded athletes; core strength, fast twitch reflexes &
flexibility. CKS is an unique organization that connects elite
collegiate swimmers with the community.
