I may not need the Helium 2 Fuel Belt or custom Oakley's Terenzo Bozzone (cover) wore on his record-breaking assault on the Clearwater 70.3 Ironman in early November, but I certainly want them.  Marketing gurus have long since realized that celebrity status sells products.  So, reading about the 23-year-old Bozzone smashing Andy Potts' record at Clearwater record by more than two minutes with an amazing 3:40:10 finish, it's no doubt that a triathlete like me would want the same products Bozzone uses.  Of course, I realize I will never be as fast as Bozzone, but the same cool gear that is available to him, is also available to me and you.

To find out the scoop on the latest and best gear, we talked to our local connections this past month to help compile a "Gear Guide" for our readers and "gear geeks" like me.  They joined in to give us a list of smokin' bikes, the latest running shoes, and just about everything else that's cool in gear, which we duly present to you as genuine five-star holiday wish list items.

So, as your race seasons come to an end this winter and you look to re-stock and re-vamp your gear for 2009, check out our "Gear Guide".  You'll also want to check out our tips for eating whatever you want this holiday without fear of gaining weight.  But don't worry, if you fail to heed our advice and decide to enjoy a few holiday treats, we've got you covered with our winter cycling maintenance plan to keep you primed for a spectacular summer season on your bike - a bike you just might pick from our list inside!

Endurance Citizens - It Runs in the Family

What better way to bring a family together than to train for a marathon?  That's exactly what Bob and Peggy Jackson thought when they registered their family of five for last year's Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco.  On October 19, 2007 the proud parents watched as their daughters Melissa, Margie and Mary crossed the finish line in the first race the entire family completed together.

"I started running marathons in my late 20s when the kids were young.  My wife and the girls would follow me in the car when I was training, and bring me drinks and snacks," Bob said.

This is the perfect time of year to pair your sandwich or salad with a nice hot bowl of tomato soup.  Not only will it warm your tummy on a cold winter's day, it may protect your ticker, too!

That's right. The almighty tomato may thwart the type of inflammation that sets the stage for heart disease. Tomatoes are a top source of vitamin C, which may play a critical part in preventing the inflammatory processes that can damage your heart.  In one study, people who consumed a tomato-based soup for 2 weeks - adding 72 milligrams of vitamin C to each day - had higher blood levels of the vitamin and decreased markers of inflammation.  Not only are tomatoes good for you, they can be used in a lot of heart-healthy meals, from soups to salads to salsa.

When selecting tomatoes never buy tomatoes that are stored in a cold area since cold temperatures can damage tomatoes. Choose plump tomatoes with smooth skins that are free from bruises, cracks, or blemishes. Depending on the variety, ripe tomatoes should be completely red or reddish-orange.

Store tomatoes at room temperature (above 55 degrees) until they have fully ripened. This will allow them to ripen properly and develop good flavor and aroma. Try to store tomatoes out of direct sunlight, because sunlight will cause them to ripen unevenly. If you must store them for a longer period of time, place them in the refrigerator. Serve them at room temperature. Chopped tomatoes can be frozen for use in sauces or other cooked dishes.

Ashley Milano is a planner. She always knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life.

"Three years ago, I was planning my wedding. I was a bride," she said. "Two years ago, I was planning my husband's funeral. I was a widow. A year ago, I was angry and depressed and felt betrayed by my god and my universe. I was a victim."
