DESCRIPTION:


The Franklin 5000 is a unique 5K running event that showcases downtown Chapel Hill -- runners of all ages and abilities will start at Kenan Stadium, run through the UNC campus, run along the length of Franklin Street (from Boundary to Merritt Mill) and then back along Rosemary Street - ultimately finishing on Church Street across from the University Square for a true downtown finish experience.

DESCRIPTION:

The Tar Heel 10 Miler is unique 10 mile running event that showcases downtown Chapel Hill, downtown Carrboro, and the beautiful surrounding regions.  Runners will start alongside the Franklin 5000 runners at Kenan Stadium, run along the length of Franklin Street and then make a big loop through Carrboro.  Once back in Chapel Hill, runners will run down Rosemary Street - ultimately finishing on Church Street across from the University Square for a true downtown finish experience.

AID STATIONS:
Church Street & W. Franklin St (near mile 2):
Water and Accelerade will be available.  This aid station will be sponsored by Fleet Feet Carrboro.

N. Greensboro Street & Wilson Park (between mile 3 & 4):
Water, Accelerade, and gels will be available.  This aid station will be sponsored by A Touch Above massage therapy.

McDougle Middle School (near mile 6):
Water, Accelerade, and gels will be available.  This aid station will be sponsored by A Touch Above massage therapy.  There will be 2 Port-o-Johns available as well.

PTA Bikepath in Carrboro (between mile 8 & 9):
Water, Accelerade, and gels will be available.  This aid station will be sponsored by the Cardinal Track Club.

 

Rules: 

Safety is critical for all involved.  UNC and Chapel Hill Police will be managing traffic along the course.

Runners will have a traffic-managed lane on the RIGHT HAND SIDE of all roads along the course.  You will be required to STAY TO THE RIGHT of all road divider lanes and/or cones.  Any runner who crosses the median of the road (and into the oncoming traffic lane) will be immediately disqualified and pulled from the course.  This policy is to ensure the safety of everyone involved so please adhere to it while participating in the Franklin 5000 & Tar Heel 10 Miler.

Participants running at a 12 minute/mile pace or slower are kindly asked to use sidewalks wherever possible.

NO HEADPHONES ALLOWED: Since this is a USA Track & Field Sanctioned event, participants are NOT allowed to use headphones.
