Official flavor of Tar Heel 10 Miler: Mocha

For those Tar Heel 10 Milers looking for a shot of energy during the race, Clif Shots will be provided at 3 out of the 4 aid stations.  We just received several large boxes of mocha-flavored Clif Shots, courtesy of Clif Bar, a very loyal sponsor of all 2008 Endurance Magazine events.  Each Clif Shot comes with a litter leash, which is a great way to keep the gel packet tops from falling to the ground.  If you need to discard your empty gel packets along the route, please hang onto them until you arrive at the next aid station.  We want to keep Carrboro and Chapel Hill beautiful and free of litter.  Thanks in advance for your support of the Race Without A Trace initiative!

Mayor Chilton official starter of Tar Heel 10 Miler!

Carrboro Mayor Mark Chilton has confirmed that he will be present at the starting line of the inaugural Tar Heel 10 Miler.  Mayor Chilton was very instrumental in helping to make the Tar Heel 10 Miler a reality and we are honored to have him as the official starter.  We're hopeful that Chapel Hill Mayor Kevin Foy will be available to be the official starter of the Franlin 5000.

Kenyan runners take notice of Franklin 5000!

Fresh off of her victory at a major half marathon in Chesapeake, VA, Winny Tonui will strive to take another step forward with her amazing young career this coming Saturday at the 2nd inaugural Franklin 5000.

Winny Tonui is Kenyan, and still lives in Kenya.  In fact, she just recently took her first international trip to kick-start her running career.  She has become a true inspiration to her village as well as a great inspiration to her young kids.  Her story is one that encourages her fellow countrymen to dare to dream, even in the midst of uncertainty.

According to her coaching staff, her training has gone very well as of late.  Endurance Magazine is honored to have Winny Tonui at the Franklin 5000 and looks forward to a tradition of hosting Kenyan runners at the Franklin 5000 and Tar Heel 10 Miler in the years to come.
