The 2015 Endurance Magazine USATF-North Carolina Long Distance Running Series kicked off with the third annual Florence Forth 10K in Durham on March 7.

The race through Durham neighborhoods, downtown and Duke University began with a chilly start but warmed quickly under sunny skies. There were 924 finishers led by a field of elite athletes competing for the state championship. Donnie Cowart finished first overall (31:03; 5:00 minutes / mile) and Heidi Bretscher was first NC-USATF woman (38:41; 6:14 minutes / mile). In the Master’s race, Bull City Track Club swept the men and women team titles. Tim Meigs of Raleigh won the men’s race (33:57; 5:29 minutes / mile) and Nancy Kaiser of Durham took won the women’s race (40:16; 6:30 minutes / mile).

The Florence Forth road race raised over $60,000 to benefit the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance, a Durham-based non-profit started by local families to cure this disease. The 2016 Florence Forth 10K is slated for March 5, 2016.
