Capes will fly in Durham on March 7, 2015, as a welcoming community of runners, neighbors, friends and survivors race in memory of a sweet 6-year-old girl and raise money to fight the disease she did not survive.

The Florence Forth 10K/5K is named after Florence McDow, who marched forth every day battling autoimmune encephalitis, often wearing her favorite pink cape.

Florence Forth offers both a 10k competitive road race with cash prizes and a 5k community run/walk. Both races start at 8 a.m. on Durham’s Ninth Street and offer a beautiful course through Durham’s historic neighborhoods.

One hundred percent of race proceeds benefit the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance (https://aealliance.org), a Durham-based nonprofit connecting people and resources to improve care, expand treatment and seek a cure for the disease.

Last year’s Florence Forth raised $40,000 for the AE Alliance. Race proceeds were used to host the first International Symposium on Autoimmune Encephalitis. Doctors from around the world met in Durham to improve diagnosis and chart a strategy for a cure.

Put your registration fees to work for a good cause and participate in the third annual Florence Forth road race. Capes are optional. Doing good isn’t!
