Hummus is the perfect family-friendly, busy-schedule, back-to-school snack. Here are a few simple, hummus-inspired ideas to get kids excited about eating healthy. Try using Roots hummus, produced in Asheville, North Carolina, to make these snacks even more irresistible.

Hummus stripes: Spread colorful stripes of Roots spinach, roasted red pepper and black bean hummus side by side on a plate for dipping. Or, assemble as green, red and purple layers in a small glass container.

Hummus mini-pizzas: Top English muffins or rice cakes with hummus. Provide cut-up fresh vegetables for kids to add as toppings.

Hummus studio: Apply a layer of hummus to a plate and encourage kids to construct faces, creations, or landscapes using an assortment of vegetables, olives, pretzels, and crackers. Raw broccoli florets make great “trees” on a hummus landscape.

Hummus shapes: Use cookie cutters to cut slices of bread into fun shapes. Top with hummus.

Hummus and kabobs: Thread raw vegetables onto small kabob sticks. Provide hummus for dipping.

Hummus sliders: Assemble mini-bagel sandwiches using hummus, avocado, black olives and sprouts.

Hummus sushi: Spread hummus on whole-wheat wrap. Add a layer of lettuce, grated carrot, and several long slices of cucumber and avocado positioned horizontally. Fold left and right edges inward 1.5 inches and roll up wrap tightly from bottom. Seal edge with hummus, slice into 1-inch pieces and serve veggie-side up. Add Sriracha sauce for an adult treat!

Hummus bento: Include a large serving of hummus in a bento-style lunch box with various crackers, pretzels and veggies to dip. A small container of hummus can be added to a regular lunch box with bags of veggies, crackers, and pretzels.
