Dan Lilley is a 40-year-old CAD technician from Bahama, N.C. At 34, he was a self-proclaimed “out of shape ex-athlete”with heart problems who took up running to improve his health. “I figured I’d turn things around,”says Lilley, “so I started running and registered for a marathon.”Lilley says that finishing his first race ever, the Big Sur Marathon in 2011, was the most memorable experience he’s had as a runner. He lists the 2012 New River Marathon as his toughest run to date. “Running hills is one thing and running mountains is another. At one point you’ve run three straight miles uphill and are so happy to have reached the top, turn the corner and realize you’re still going up!”

What Lilley says about the Bull City Race Fest & Food Truck Rodeo:

“The second half of the course was great – glad I rode the course the day before so I wasn’t surprised.”
